Interview preparation
The question bank, and notes on the three things an interview actually divides into.
Six topics cover the generalist technical interview - accounting, valuation, enterprise and equity value, the DCF, M&A and LBOs - and they are not equal. Accounting and valuation carry most of it; M&A and LBO questions come up, but at entry level they are asked conceptually rather than as models.
The two most-used guides disagree on emphasis and agree on substance: fit takes days to prepare where technicals take months, and once you are past the first round it is most of what is being judged.
A banking interview is more tightly structured than most: a short opening on you, a long technical middle, and five minutes of your own questions. Knowing the shape tells you where the preparation time belongs, and most of what goes wrong on the day is manner rather than knowledge.
The one part of the preparation that expires. Everything below carries the date it was true, and should be re-checked against the linked source before an interview rather than quoted from here.
